This reminds me that the national socialists n Germany were also known leftists.

yes, it's fascinating how these days how the self-proclaimed antifascists never use the term "national socialist" to describe their chief opponents. we can't confuse ourselves with actual historical reality, must stick to the propaganda. they could re-name it "evil-ism" perhaps... who cares if the national socialists don't use the term or even know what it means...

Dearest David. Thank you for this timely piece. I have been grappling with these themes in my own writing. We live in a time where too many things seem upside down. Leftists who support war and censorship? LGBTQ+ activists who are intolerant of feminists who want to have a nuanced discussion about where the tensions exist. The rise of the crybullies, who wrap themselves in social justice flags to bully others. The irony of left authoritarianism in the name of anti-authoritarianism. The 21st century fascism won’t rise only out of right-wing extremists, but out of the politics of identity that desire state sponsored no-platforming to keep us “safe.” What to do? In any regard, respect to you.
