... hearing that again, YouTube showed me "Dictatorship of Capital" and his rendition of "Victor Jara." Powerful, both. Chancing to hear your own songs and his in my old age, I'm reminded of the cost of being isolated, not belonging to any activist groups where I might have heard the really brilliant, well-aimed songs. We get too soon old and too late smart! Happily, not all of us.
Thank you, David, for this cool song. At a time when I see how dogmatic I've become - thank you for giving me a different view. I need to understand when people are essentially agreeing with me. But, I find I have very little temperament for nuance. According to Facebook, you have to like, care, love, be sad, be angry, be surprised, or find it funny. People's emotions are never so pure. They are much more mixed and nuanced. Thanks for reminding me of this reality.
title reminds me of the old Allistair Hulett song that always needed a translator, for me anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLrJZUoGUyg sentiment is as pungent now as it was then. no, more so.
yes, i was thinking of alistair's song as i was writing this one! alistair and i did a tour in the usa after he put out the amazing album that that song is on. i had to listen to the album 100 times before i could understand all the lyrics, but eventually i got there. i told him he should mix things up and sing songs that weren't from that album, because the americans wouldn't understand what he was singing, if he did it in glaswegian. he didn't believe me. i sure enjoyed his sets, anyway...!
Exceptional song. Let's not argue about that!
I love this song so you'll get no argument from me!

Thanks for this.. These are questions I ask myself, everyday!
Nicely sums up the old sectarian saying "The fighting was especially vicious because the differences were so trivial."
