I tried to speak to people in person about this recently. I restacked this post with a note about how I feel.

I'm old enough that being able to assess from newspaper reporting resonated with me. But how the younger generation become anti-war is a different matter. It seemed to me that most of the people that I knew in their late-teens and twenties before lockdown were edgelord alt-right types, or deeply down the rabbit-hole of culture wars, rather than able to humanize people suffering in almost any context*.

I like your closing quote:

"All that seems apparent is we won't stop this genocide if we're worried about being called antisemites for our opposition to it, and we won't stop this genocide by trying to organize or win arguments on corporate social media platforms that are designed to make such efforts impossible. We have to think, and act, outside of those boxes, and on a bigger scale than ever, and we need to shut down the war machine while there's still time for those of us who are still here."

Thanks again for your writing.

*Although part of that assessment of their ability to feel, may have been I was too prone to rigid all or nothing thinking and maybe I was also a jerk without enough humility.

This isn't a war between the Israeli government and the Palestinians: it's an operation by the IDF, Hamas and the U.S. military to overthrow the Israeli government. Of course, deep-state actors in the occupied territories also have to be arrested or taken out.
