David, do it, write the book, I know nothing about writing books, but I know you can write with skill and passion and crucially you always know what your talking about. Solidarity, John.

David, I HAVE written a political philosophy novel and am looking to get it published. My characters are what appears to be polar opposites Libertarian and Marxist. But with the guidance of a retired woman philosophy professor together they evolve a true synthesis and take it into the world. As for advice, get the book by Kelly Notaras THE BOOK YOU WERE BORN TO WRITE. It is full of very good practical advice.

You are a fine writer & I look forward to reading your book. I, too have a book gestating in my head. I've lived a lively life & my parents, grandparents & gggpts did also. Mu aunt did some of the research, but that was way before the internet. I'd like to complete it. It's about our 19th century life in Jerusalem/Jaffa with Arabs, their kids and their animals. Our Jewish life there learning to speak 5 languages, etc etc. I know a song will wend its way out of your head from time to time & I look forward to that, too.

Best wishes for your new writing project, David. I hope you won't disappear from view entirely. Occasional updates regarding your progress would be most welcome, as would comments regarding your writing process. I seem to recall reading that a researcher who had access to Mark Twain's longhand drafts was puzzled by a number that appeared occasionally in a corner of a page. More research revealed that it indicated the number of words Twain had written that day. Every writer's work habits are to some extent unique to him or her. Most other writers find them to be of some interest, the work being, of necessity, a more or less solitary task. Peace, Mike

A difficult task, David, but a worthy endeavour.

In 2013, I began working on a novel which I completed in 2021. The work, a historical "faction" entitled "A Wider Perspective", takes place during the turbulent years of the 1980s when a new social contract was hurriedly implemented across the Western Economies. The narrative focuses primarily on the successes and shortcomings of two individuals: a former Vice-Principle at a Hebrew high school who decides to publish a series of provocative pro-Revisionist Zionism polemics and a tax expert who attempts to advance the political careers of a group of independent political candidates in the West Island of Montreal. The completed work consists of approximately 83,000 words and covers just under 200 pages.

Since 2021 I have searched for a publisher for the work. Although I have received mostly positive responses, the publishers have each rejected the work informing me that the subject of the work does not fit with their target audience. In spite of this the experience was well worth the mental and emotional commitment on my part.

All this to say, enjoy working on the project should you go down that road, and if you need someone to read and comment on a draft of the work, you know where to reach me.

Regards,

Alan

Well, good luck. I’ll probably read it. If you’re looking for people to ask about cultural or technological questions, and to read and give you feedback, feel free to tap me. Especially of you want to hear from folks who often disagree with you.

I’ve been working on a novel too. But mine is about pirates and Jacobites, set in 1744. 🏴‍☠️

Mine is more of a hobby, though. IDK if I’ll live long enough to finish it.
